Govindacharya: At least 10 pc of Ramlila crowd RSS workers

Saying the RSS had made it clear that it supported all “anti-corruption movements”, former BJP ideologue K N Govindacharya said on Thursday that “at least 10 per cent of the crowd” at Ramlila Maidan were swayamsevaks. However, he dismissed allegations of “RSS backing”.

“As Arvind Kejriwal said earlier, any movement in urban Indian is said to be backed by the RSS and any movement in rural India is said to be the handiwork of Naxals,” said Govindacharya, who met Anna Hazare’s team members at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.

Criticising the BJP, he said: “The BJP should have played a stronger role at the all-party meeting. If it is so keen to fight corruption, why doesn’t the party set up effective Lokayuktas in the states under its rule?”

Govindacharya said while he had “been among the crowds in this movement”, he decided to “make a formal appearance today”.

“Compared to many other movements, I think this is the most spontaneous, and it has grown even bigger than J P’s movement in the 1970s.”
